Just 9 minutes ago, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Basco, Batanes, Cagayan Valley, Philippines. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Saturday, November 1st, 2025, at 2:57 pm local time, at an intermediate depth of 131.10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Uyugan (pop. 1,400) located 44 km from the epicenter, Ivana (pop. 1,400) 47 km away, Mahatao (pop. 1,700) 48 km away, Sabtang (pop. 1,700) 48 km away, Basco (pop. 7,300) 49 km away, and Itbayat (pop. 3,100) 88 km away.
