An earthquake of magnitude 2.8 occurred only 19 minutes ago 7 miles southeast of Perenjori, Western Australia, Australia, Geoscience Australia (GeoAu) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles beneath the epicenter near Perenjori, Western Australia, Australia, around noon on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, at 1:08 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.8 as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 2.8.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Perenjori (pop. 310) located 7 miles from the epicenter, and Bunjil (pop. 76) 9 miles away. In Latham (pop. 59, 17 miles away), Waddi Forest (pop. 28, 26 miles away), Maya (pop. 18, 27 miles away), Morawa (pop. 600, 30 miles away), Carnamah (pop. 400, 30 miles away), and Rothsay (pop. 470, 37 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
