Just 11 minutes ago, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Santo Domingo, Santo Domingo De Guzmán, Distrito Nacional, Dominican Republic. The tremor was recorded early morning on Monday, September 1st, 2025, at 5:27 am local time, at an intermediate depth of 81.20 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.5.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bayaguana (pop. 21,100) located 12 km from the epicenter, Monte Plata (pop. 15,500) 21 km away, Sabana Grande de Boya (pop. 16,800) 24 km away, Quisqueya (pop. 17,700) 38 km away, Boca Chica (pop. 46,300) 44 km away, Santo Domingo (pop. 2,201,900) 52 km away, Santo Domingo Oeste (pop. 701,300) 58 km away, Bajos de Haina (pop. 66,800) 67 km away, and La Romana (pop. 208,400) 80 km away.
