The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 2.8 quake in Austria near Spittal an der Drau, Spittal an der Drau District, Kaernten, only 19 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025, at 10:23 am local time at a shallow depth of 11.60 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.6.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Flattach (pop. 400) located 1 km from the epicenter.
