5.2 quake 16 Sep 5:40 pm (GMT +3)

An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred only 5 minutes ago 62 km northwest of Buzau, Romania, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 137 km beneath the epicenter near Buzau, Municipiul Buzău, Romania, in the afternoon on Monday, September 16th, 2024, at 5:40 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Nehoiu (pop. 11,400) located 15 km from the epicenter, Săcele (pop. 29,900) 44 km away, Targu Secuiesc (pop. 20,100) 52 km away, Buzau (pop. 131,000) 62 km away, Campina (pop. 41,600) 63 km away, and Râmnicu Sărat (pop. 38,500) 63 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Târgovişte (pop. 88,400)
