Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms may affect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness this afternoon and evening. If storms develop, they may contain damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and large hail up to ping pong ball size. The storms may also produce frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and locally heavy rainfall. The most likely time for thunderstorms is between 5 PM and 10 PM. Now is the time to prepare in case thunderstorms threaten. Campers should take extra precautions in order to secure campsites and make a plan in case of severe weather.
