The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Rice University, located in Houston, TX, seeks applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. The department is particularly interested in someone with a research focus on energy and the environment. Our priorities are in those thematic areas connected to the thermal-fluids (fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer); however, we are open to outstanding candidates in all areas related to Mechanical Engineering, including but not limited to controls, dynamics, robotics, design, and solid mechanics.

The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Affairs is a member of the college leadership team responsible for oversight of all undergraduate academic programs within the college. Position overview
Salary range: Assistant Professor – The current salary range for this position is $107,100-$157,800 (9-month academic year salary); however, off-scale salary and other components of pay, which would yield compensation that is higher than this range, are offered to meet competitive conditions. Associate Professor/Full Professor – The current salary range for this position is $128,800 – $256,100 (9-month academic year salary); however, off-scale salary and other components of pay, which would yield compensation that is higher than this range, are offered to meet competitive conditions.
