The Francis College of Engineering (FCOE) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell) is searching for outstanding candidates for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Biomedical Engineering.  The position is anticipated to begin in September 2026.

UMass Lowell’s Department of Biomedical Engineering trains students to translate discoveries into real-world applications in the medical device and biotechnology industries through an ABET-accredited B.S. program—Massachusetts’ first at a public university—with specialized tracks in medical device development, cell and tissue engineering, and biomechanics. The role is expected to start in September 2026. Teaching Professors play a vital role in developing and delivering curriculum within the FCOE and are actively involved in departmental, college, and university activities. Assistant Teaching Professors enjoy full faculty privileges and undergo an assessment for promotion to Associate Teaching Professor (with equivalent to tenure).

Qualifications

Candidates must have a doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. Candidates who are ABD (all but dissertation) will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous university teaching experience and the ability to teach a variety of courses in the Electrical Engineering curriculum. Additionally, candidates with industry experience and a strong commitment to mentoring students as they prepare for career or graduate studies are highly preferred.
