A magnitude 2.7 earthquake near Corfu, Kérkyra, Ionian Islands, Greece, was reported only 22 minutes ago by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Greece. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Saturday, August 9th, 2025, at 10:20 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.6. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 2.9, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 2.7, and The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 2.6.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Klimatia (pop. 230) located 1 km from the epicenter, Acharavi (pop. 1000) 7 km away, Agios Georgis (pop. 5,000) 8 km away, Kontokali (pop. 1,700) 11 km away, Potamos (pop. 3,800) 14 km away, and Alepou (pop. 3,100) 16 km away. In Corfu (pop. 27,000,
