The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 5.7 quake in Chile near Pozo Almonte, Provincia del Tamarugal, Tarapacá, only 5 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early afternoon on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, at 2:10 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 110.60 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 5.5 earthquake. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Mamiña (pop. 320) located 24 km from the epicenter, Pica (pop. 9,300) 40 km away, La Tirana (pop. 1,500) 63 km away, Pozo Almonte (pop. 15,700) 75 km away, Huara (pop. 2,700) 79 km away, Alto Hospicio (pop. 108,400) 109 km away, and Iquique (pop. 191,500) 113 km away.
