An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred only 7 minutes ago 39 km northwest of Wushan, China, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 35. km beneath the epicenter near Wushan, Tianshui Shi, Gansu, China, early morning on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, at 5:50 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Gaolou (pop. 18,200) located 22 km from the epicenter, Hualin (pop. 16,100) 22 km away, Yuanyang (pop. 26,400) 26 km away, Mali (pop. 42,300) 32 km away, and Shandan (pop. 24,200) 33 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Wushan (pop. 68,600) located 39 km from the epicenter, Tange (pop. 37,100) 43 km away, and Luomen (pop. 90,000) 48 km
