A magnitude 3.5 earthquake near Merredin, Western Australia, Australia, was reported only 11 minutes ago by Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Australia. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles beneath the epicenter after midnight on Monday, September 29th, 2025, at 12:25 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.5 as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.5, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 3.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in South Yelbeni (pop. 29) located 1 miles from the epicenter, and South Trayning (pop. 42) 8 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Korrelocking (pop. 50) located 13 miles
