An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred early morning on Saturday, July 12th, 2025, at 4:36 am local time near Eagle River, Anchorage, Alaska, USA, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 19 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Susitna North (pop. 1,300) located 23 miles from the epicenter, and Fishhook (pop. 4,700) 24 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tanaina (pop. 8,200) located 33 miles from the epicenter, Lakes (pop. 8,400) 33 miles away, Meadow Lakes (pop. 7,600) 35 miles away, Wasilla (pop. 9,300) 36 miles away, Knik-Fairview (pop. 14,900) 42 miles away, Eagle River (pop. 24,800) 54 miles away, Eagle River (pop. 24,800) 54 miles away, and Anchorage (pop. 291,200) 65 miles away.
