The citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in Canada near Grande Prairie, Alberta, only 23 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Saturday, July 26th, 2025, at 9:13 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 2.2 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Wedgewood (pop. 750) located 19 miles from the epicenter, Grande Prairie (pop. 41,500) 22 miles away, Westlake (pop. 1,400) 26 miles away, and Wembley (pop. 1,500) 26 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Sexsmith (pop. 2,500) located 34 miles from the epicenter, Beaverlodge (pop. 2,200) 38 miles away, and Valleyview (pop. 1,900) 59 miles away.
