An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred only 15 minutes ago 67 km southeast of Malita, Philippines, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 117.15 km beneath the epicenter near Malita, Davao Occidental, Davao, Philippines, in the morning on Monday, September 29th, 2025, at 11:00 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.9 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mangili (pop. 3,000) located 26 km from the epicenter, Malapatan (pop. 19,400) 67 km away, Malita (pop. 41,100) 67 km away, Alabel (pop. 43,300) 70 km away, Glan (pop. 24,300) 76 km away, Malungun (pop. 52,200) 80 km away, General Santos (pop. 697,300) 83 km away, Santa Maria (pop. 16,800) 88 km away, and Polomolok (pop. 64,000) 99 km away.

* WHAT…Life-threatening rip currents. * WHERE…Beaches of north-central and northwestern Puerto Rico. * WHEN…Through Monday afternoon. * IMPACTS…Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water, where it becomes difficult to return to safety. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS…A pulse of a northeasterly swell from Major Hurricane Humberto will maintain seas up to 7 feet across the local waters through this evening, resulting in breaking waves of 7-9 feet across exposed beaches. These potentially life- threatening conditions will gradually subside as the system moves away, with coastal conditions improving on Monday.
