* WHAT…For the Coastal Flood Advisory, up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous rip currents expected. * WHERE…Coastal Horry and Coastal Georgetown Counties. * WHEN…For the Coastal Flood Advisory, until 11 AM EDT this morning. For the High Rip Current Risk, from 6 AM EDT this morning through this evening. * IMPACTS…Vulnerable causeways to and from local beaches will experience minor coastal flooding. Low-lying roads and locations along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks will observe minor coastal flooding. Check with local officials for the latest information regarding coastal flood impacts and closures.

Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.8 just reported 100 km east of Union, Philippines

An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred around noon on Tuesday, October 7th, 2025, at 12:55 pm local time near Union, Surigao del Norte, Caraga, Philippines, as reported by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 74. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), which listed it as a magnitude 5.0 earthquake.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Union (pop. 2,400) located 100 km from the epicenter, Dapa (pop. 8,800) 107 km away, and Socorro (pop. 9,700) 118 km away.
