At 1002 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Zion Hill, or 11 miles south of Williamsburg, moving east at 35 mph. HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include… New Tazewell, Harrogate, Jellico, Springdale, Cumberland Gap, Arthur, Indian Mountain State Park, Clairfield, and White Oak.

Just 8 minutes ago, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Padangsidempuan, Kota Padangsidimpuan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Thursday, September 4th, 2025, at 8:52 pm local time, at an intermediate to considerable depth of 164. km below the surface.
The event was filed by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the first seismological agency to report it.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Padangsidempuan (pop. 236,200) located 31 km from the epicenter, Bandar (pop. 31,400) 61 km away, Tarutung (pop. 39,500) 65 km away, Sibolga (pop. 91,300) 70 km away, Rantauprapat (pop. 103,000) 71 km away, and Parmonangan (pop. 13,000) 94 km away.
