A magnitude 4.5 earthquake near Amahai, Kabupaten Maluku Tengah, Maluku, Indonesia, was reported only 16 minutes ago by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Indonesia. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter around noon on Monday, September 29th, 2025, at 1:13 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Masohi (pop. 36,400) located 90 km from the epicenter, and Amahai (pop. 47,700) 97 km away.
