The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has extended the Air Pollution Action Day for the greater Chicago Metropolitan Area and IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT FRIDAY NIGHT. A Chicago area “Air Pollution Action Day” is declared when weather conditions are such that widespread ozone and or particulate levels are expected to be at or above the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) category of the Air Quality Index for multiple days. Wildfire smoke is expected to continue to have an impact on particulate levels with daily 24 hour AQI forecasts at USG or higher through Friday. At 230 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms near Fair Bluff, or 15 miles west of Whiteville, moving northeast at 30 mph. HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
