An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred only 10 minutes ago 24 km northeast of Sorsogon, Philippines, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Sorsogon, Bicol, Philippines, in the evening on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, at 9:17 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Rapu-Rapu (pop. 4,600) located 11 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Sorsogon (pop. 82,700) located 24 km from the epicenter, Legaspi (pop. 179,500) 47 km away, Irosin (pop. 20,700) 47 km away, Tagas (pop. 15,300) 50 km away, Malilipot (pop. 33,600) 53 km away, and Tabaco (pop. 57,900) 55 km away.
