Mon, 28 Apr 2025, 09:04 | BY: EARTHQUAKEMONITOR

A magnitude 3.1 earthquake near San Jose del Cabo, Los Cabos, Estado de Baja California Sur, Mexico, was reported only 21 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 5. km beneath the epicenter early morning on Monday, April 28th, 2025, at 1:42 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by Mexico’s National Seismological Service (SSN), which listed it as a magnitude 3.1 earthquake as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.1.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in La Choya (pop. 450) located 2 km from the epicenter, San Jose del Cabo (pop. 69,800) 2 km away, La Playa (pop. 1,400) 2 km away, and Las Animas Bajas (pop. 380) 3 km away.
