A magnitude 3.5 earthquake near Pau, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France, was reported only 9 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 1. km beneath the epicenter early afternoon on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, at 2:36 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Agnos (pop. 810) located 1 km from the epicenter.
In Oloron-Sainte-Marie (pop. 12,600) located 4 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Billere (pop. 14,900) located 25 km from the epicenter, Lons (pop. 13,900) 25 km away, Lescar (pop. 9,700) 25 km away, Pau (pop. 82,700) 28 km away, and Lourdes (pop. 15,800) 48 km away. In Tarbes (pop. 52,100, 57 km away), the
