An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred only 14 minutes ago 21 miles south of Nikolski, Alaska, United States, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles beneath the epicenter near Nikolski, Aleutians West, Alaska, USA, in the morning on Sunday, April 27th, 2025, at 11:07 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Nikolski (pop. 18) located 21 miles from the epicenter.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available.
