A magnitude 4.5 earthquake near Amizmiz, Al Haouz Province, Marrakesh-Safi, Morocco, was reported only 13 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 12.85 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025, at 4:25 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5 as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.5, and the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, IPMA) at magnitude 4.1.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Amizmiz (pop. 15,700) located 31 km from the epicenter, Aoulouz (pop. 19,000) 31 km away, Oulad Barhil (pop. 26,500) 39 km away, Imi-n-Tanout (pop. 22,800) 62
