A shallow magnitude 3.2 earthquake was reported early morning near Rhodes, Dodecanese, South Aegean, Greece.
According to the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the quake hit on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025, at 6:55 am local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.8. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.2.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Archangelos (pop. 5,400) located 10 km from the epicenter, Afantou (pop. 5,600) 15 km away, Lardos (pop. 1,300) 18 km away, Faliraki (pop. 6,000) 20 km away, Maritsa (pop. 1,800) 23 km away, Koskinou (pop. 4,900) 25 km away, Ialysos (pop. 11,300) 28 km away, Kremasti (pop. 4,700) 29 km away, and Rhodes (pop. 56,100) 31 km away.
