An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred only 15 minutes ago 49 km southwest of Manado, Indonesia, Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 101. km beneath the epicenter near Manado, Kota Manado, Sulawesi Utara, Indonesia, early morning on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025, at 2:47 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.7.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tomohon (pop. 27,600) located 38 km from the epicenter, Manado (pop. 451,900) 49 km away, Tondano (pop. 33,300) 50 km away, Laikit, Laikit II (Dimembe) (pop. 8,000) 62 km away, Bitung (pop. 225,100) 76 km away, and Bitung (pop. 137,400) 83 km away.
