* WHAT…Flooding caused by persistent rainfall is expected. * WHERE…Tanana River near Manley Hot Springs. * WHEN…Until 1015 PM AKDT Monday. * IMPACTS…Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS… – At 817 AM AKDT, river gauge reports indicate rises in water levels from persistent rain across the advisory area. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, especially near the Tanana River. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.2 to 0.5 inches are possible through tomorrow morning. – The Tanana River at Nenana has already crested. We are expecting the crest at Manley Hot Springs to occur by noon today and drop below minor flood stage tonight. –

* WHAT…Dangerous rip currents and large breaking waves of 4 to 5 feet in the surf zone. * WHERE…In North Carolina, Eastern Currituck County. In Virginia, Virginia Beach. * WHEN…Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS…Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Strong longshore currents will create dangerous swimming conditions. Large breaking waves can cause neck and spinal injuries.

A low in the Bering Sea will provide south/southwest winds through Wednesday. Water levels will be higher than normal for this morning’s high tide cycle, but expect rises of about 2 to 4 feet above the normal high tide line on Tuesday. The highest water levels will be around 3 to 4 feet in Shaktoolik, Koyuk and Golovin midday Tuesday with around 2 to 3 feet elsewhere.
