Tue, 30 Sep 2025, 07:28 | BY: EARTHQUAKEMONITOR

An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred in the morning on Tuesday, September 30th, 2025, at 10:10 am local time near Argostoli, Kefallonia, Ionian Islands, Greece, as reported by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 5. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.4. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.1, The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 3.1, and The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 3.0.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Dilinata (pop. 720) located 4 km from the epicenter, and Faraklata (pop. 1,100) 6 km away.
