An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred 38 minutes ago 15 km northeast of Manzanillo, Mexico, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 15. km beneath the epicenter near Manzanillo, Estado de Colima, Mexico, in the evening on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025, at 9:55 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from Mexico’s National Seismological Service (SSN) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.4.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Camotlan de Miraflores (pop. 1,800) located 4 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in El Colomo (pop. 10,300) located 14 km from the epicenter, Manzanillo (pop. 159,900) 15 km away, Cihuatlan (pop. 18,200) 36 km away, Ciudad de Armeria (pop. 15,900) 39 km away, Tecoman (pop. 85,700) 47 km away, Ciudad de Villa de Alvarez (pop. 117,600) 52

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in San Antonio de los Cobres (pop. 4,000) located 91 km from the epicenter.
