Just 7 minutes ago, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Situbondo, Kabupaten Situbondo, Jawa Timur, Indonesia. The tremor was recorded late at night on Tuesday, September 30th, 2025, at 11:49 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 35. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 6.0.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Kalianget (pop. 23,900) located 44 km from the epicenter, Panji (pop. 42,800) 48 km away, Situbondo (pop. 686,000) 51 km away, Sumenep (pop. 84,700) 54 km away, Balung (pop. 47,600) 59 km away, Besuki (pop. 55,500) 76 km away, Bondowoso (pop. 69,800) 81 km away, and Pamekasan (pop. 92,400) 87 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
