An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred around noon on Monday, April 21st, 2025, at 1:56 pm local time near Mati, Davao Oriental, Davao, Philippines, as reported by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 50. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Baon (pop. 3,600) located 12 km from the epicenter, Lupon (pop. 27,200) 16 km away, Mati (pop. 105,900) 33 km away, Samal (pop. 43,500) 47 km away, Davao City (pop. 1,776,900) 54 km away, and Malita (pop. 41,100) 57 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Panabo (pop. 84,700) located 70 km from the epicenter, Digos (pop. 116,100) 70 km
