An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred only 12 minutes ago 113 km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, Russia, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, Kamchatka, Russia, early evening on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025, at 7:18 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 5.3. A third agency, France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.4.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy (pop. 181,200) located 113 km from the epicenter, and Vilyuchinsk (pop. 25,200) 122 km away.

An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred early morning on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025, at 2:09 am local time near Antigua Guatemala, Departamento de Sacatepequez, Guatemala, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 3. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Jocotenango (pop. 17,900) located 2 km from the epicenter, and Antigua Guatemala (pop. 46,100) 3 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Sumpango (pop. 28,500) located 6 km from the epicenter, Santiago Sacatepequez (pop. 29,200) 8 km away, Ciudad Vieja (pop. 33,400) 8 km away, San Lucas Sacatepequez (pop. 20,700) 8 km away, Chimaltenango (pop. 97,000) 12 km away, Mixco (pop. 465,800) 14 km away, and Villa Nueva (pop. 618,400)
