A very shallow magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported early morning near Kusadasi, Aydin, Turkey.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Saturday, August 30th, 2025, at 1:23 am local time at a very shallow depth of 8.30 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) at magnitude 3.2, The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 2.9, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.2.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Kusadasi (pop. 63,200) located 6 km from the epicenter, Selcuk (pop. 29,100) 8 km away, and Soeke (pop. 68,200) 20 km away. In Torbali (pop. 50,300, 28 km away), Menderes (pop. 22,000, 41 km away), Tire (pop. 47,200, 43 km away), Bayindir (pop. 16,900,
