Mon, 6 Oct 2025, 17:10 | BY: EARTHQUAKEMONITOR

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 4.6 quake in Mexico near Ensenada, Ensenada Municipality, Estado de Baja California, only 16 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Monday, October 6th, 2025, at 9:53 am local time at a very shallow depth of 1. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by Mexico’s National Seismological Service (SSN), which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.3, and The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) at magnitude 4.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In San Vicente (pop. 4,400) located 16 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Licenciado Gustavo Diaz Ordaz (pop. 1,400) located 40 km from the epicenter, Camalu (pop. 8,600) 54 km away, Benito Garcia (El Zorrillo) (pop. 6,600) 56 km
