A magnitude 4.3 earthquake near San Jose, San José, Provincia de San Jose, Costa Rica, was reported only 15 minutes ago by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 26. km beneath the epicenter early afternoon on Sunday, July 6th, 2025, at 3:51 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Parrita (pop. 3,700) located 9 km from the epicenter, Tejar (pop. 22,400) 20 km away, San Rafael Abajo (pop. 27,400) 26 km away, and Aserri (pop. 25,900) 40 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include San Rafael (pop. 25,400) located 43 km from the epicenter, San Miguel (pop. 28,800) 43 km away, San Jose (pop. 335,000) 47 km away, Curridabat (pop. 34,600) 48
