A shallow magnitude 4.7 earthquake was reported early morning near Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro, Mimaropa, Philippines.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the quake hit on Monday, September 15th, 2025, at 6:24 am local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Bayuin (pop. 3,100) located 19 km from the epicenter, and Bansud (pop. 13,800) 21 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Pinamalayan (pop. 43,500) located 25 km from the epicenter, Mansalay (pop. 23,000) 48 km away, Sablayan (pop. 38,400) 55 km away, San Jose (pop. 118,800) 67 km away, and Rosario (pop. 128,400) 79 km away.
