An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 13 minutes ago 111 km northeast of Nabire, Indonesia, Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 50. km beneath the epicenter near Nabire, Nabire Regency, Central Papua, Indonesia, around noon on Friday, October 3rd, 2025, at 1:53 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Nabire (pop. 43,900) located 111 km from the epicenter.
