Moderate magnitude 4.5 quake hits 91 km southwest of Miangas, Indonesia in the evening

A shallow magnitude 4.5 earthquake was reported in the evening near Miangas, Sulawesi Utara, Indonesia.
According to the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, the quake hit on Sunday, October 5th, 2025, at 9:16 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Miangas (pop. 820) located 91 km from the epicenter, and Sarangani (pop. 7,500) 105 km away.
