The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 2.9 quake in Poland near Lubin, Lubin County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, only 4 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the afternoon on Friday, August 29th, 2025, at 5:41 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 2.9 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Rakow (pop. 170) located 3 km from the epicenter, Polkowice (pop. 21,600) 17 km away, and Lubin (pop. 77,500) 21 km away. In Boleslawiec (pop. 40,700, 27 km away), Legnica (pop. 106,000, 27 km away), Zlotoryja (pop. 15,600, 29 km away), Glogow (pop. 67,300, 33 km away), Jawor (pop. 23,900, 43 km away), and Nowa Sol (pop. 40,400, 48 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
