An earthquake of magnitude 3.3 occurred early morning on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025, at 3:03 am local time near Matane, Bas-Saint-Laurent, Quebec, Canada, as reported by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 12 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Matane (pop. 14,800) located 3 miles from the epicenter. In Amqui (pop. 6,300, 26 miles away), Mont-Joli (pop. 6,600, 32 miles away), Baie-Comeau (pop. 21,500, 37 miles away), Hauterive (pop. 11,500, 40 miles away), Chute-aux-Outardes (pop. 2,000, 42 miles away), and Rimouski (pop. 42,200, 50 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
