An intermediate magnitude 4.7 earthquake was reported early evening near La Union, La Unión, Departamento del Valle del Cauca, Colombia.
According to The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), the quake hit on Sunday, August 10th, 2025, at 7:16 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 126. km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.7 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include El Dovio (pop. 7,900) located 4 km from the epicenter, Roldanillo (pop. 27,600) 18 km away, La Union (pop. 41,000) 19 km away, Zarzal (pop. 28,800) 26 km away, Cartago (pop. 135,000) 47 km away, Sevilla (pop. 43,700) 47 km away, Tulua (pop. 221,700) 49 km away, and Guadalajara de Buga (pop. 114,300) 69 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant
