An earthquake of magnitude 2.5 occurred only 25 minutes ago 7 km northwest of Granada, Spain, Spain’s Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 3. km beneath the epicenter near Granada, Andalusia, Spain, around noon on Sunday, July 27th, 2025, at 1:32 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.5 as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, IPMA) at magnitude 2.1, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 2.1.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Atarfe (pop. 15,400) located 2 km from the epicenter, and Albolote (pop. 17,100) 3 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Maracena (pop. 20,800)
