Just 10 minutes ago, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Huanuco, Huánuco Province, Peru. The tremor was recorded early morning on Saturday, April 19th, 2025, at 6:56 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Utao (pop. 940) located 27 km from the epicenter, Tingo Maria (pop. 53,200) 39 km away, and Huanuco (pop. 196,600) 45 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Llata (pop. 4,600) located 58 km from the epicenter, Ambo (pop. 6,900) 67 km away, La Union (pop. 4,800) 68 km away, and Yanacancha (pop. 23,200) 90 km away.
