An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred only 10 minutes ago 96 km northwest of Basco, Philippines, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Basco, Batanes, Cagayan Valley, Philippines, in the evening on Wednesday, November 12th, 2025, at 8:02 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Itbayat (pop. 3,100) located 71 km from the epicenter, Sabtang (pop. 1,700) 94 km away, Mahatao (pop. 1,700) 95 km away, Ivana (pop. 1,400) 96 km away, Basco (pop. 7,300) 96 km away, and Uyugan (pop. 1,400) 99 km away.
