A moderately shallow magnitude 4.7 earthquake was reported early morning near General Santos, South Cotabato, Soccsksargen, Philippines.
According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the quake hit on Sunday, August 10th, 2025, at 5:18 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 30. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Sarangani (pop. 7,500) located 8 km from the epicenter, Bukid (pop. 2,200) 19 km away, Balangonan (pop. 2,300) 20 km away, Glan (pop. 24,300) 52 km away, and Malapatan (pop. 19,400) 64 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Alabel (pop. 43,300) located 79 km from the epicenter, General Santos (pop. 697,300) 83 km away, Polomolok (pop. 64,000) 98 km away, and Malungun (pop. 52,200) 98 km away.
