Just 19 minutes ago, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Huacho, Huaura Province, Lima region, Peru. The tremor was recorded early evening on Friday, December 26th, 2025, at 7:35 pm local time, at an intermediate depth of 78. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Colombian Geological Service (SGC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Vegueta (pop. 6,200) located 5 km from the epicenter, Huaura (pop. 20,700) 12 km away, Huaura (pop. 20,700) 12 km away, Hualmay (pop. 26,700) 13 km away, Huacho (pop. 54,500) 16 km away, and Barranca (pop. 46,300) 29 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Paramonga (pop. 27,600) located 40 km from the epicenter, and Huaral (pop. 62,200) 75 km away.
