A magnitude 4.0 earthquake near Sutton-Alpine, Matanuska-Susitna, Alaska, USA, was reported only 2 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 12 miles beneath the epicenter early evening on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, at 7:30 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Glacier View (pop. 230) located 9 miles from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Sutton-Alpine (pop. 1,400) located 43 miles from the epicenter, Lazy Mountain (pop. 1,500) 49 miles away, Palmer (pop. 6,800) 55 miles away, Fishhook (pop. 4,700) 58 miles away, Gateway (pop. 5,600) 59 miles away, and Lakes
