An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred only 13 minutes ago 90 km northwest of Mendoza, Argentina, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 100.30 km beneath the epicenter near Mendoza, Departamento de Guaymallén, Mendoza Province, Argentina, early afternoon on Monday, October 13th, 2025, at 3:58 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Primero de Mayo (pop. 1000) located 86 km from the epicenter, Mendoza (pop. 114,900) 90 km away, Pocito (pop. 41,000) 91 km away, San Juan (pop. 109,100) 105 km away, Santa Lucia (pop. 43,600) 107 km away, and Chimbas (pop. 73,800) 109 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app.
