An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred only 7 minutes ago 77 km south of Amahai, Indonesia, Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 46. km beneath the epicenter near Amahai, Kabupaten Maluku Tengah, Maluku, Indonesia, in the morning on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, at 11:02 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Amahai (pop. 47,700) located 77 km from the epicenter, Masohi (pop. 36,400) 82 km away, and Ambon (pop. 347,300) 90 km away.
