Ecuador was shaken near Puyo, Pastaza, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 31 minutes ago, The Colombian Geological Service (SGC) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 185. km beneath the epicenter near Puyo, Pastaza, Ecuador, in the morning on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025, at 9:56 am local time. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Palora (pop. 6,500) located 2 km from the epicenter, Puyo (pop. 24,900) 26 km away, Banos (pop. 9,500) 63 km away, Macas (pop. 23,700) 68 km away, Pelileo (pop. 16,600) 79 km away, Tena (pop. 17,200) 82 km away, Ambato (pop. 387,300) 90 km away, and Latacunga (pop. 205,600) 114 km away.

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Region 9 Administrator authorized the use of federal funds to assist the State of California in combating the 2-7 Fire burning in Calaveras County.

On September 2, the State of California submitted a request for a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) declaration for the 2-7 Fire.
